Who is Emily Gray?

Vancouver based artist, Emily Gray, specializes in painting, murals, scenic artistry and ceramic. Emily had always been artistically inspired from a young age growing up on her family’s oyster farm located on the Sunshine Coast. Being creative was her response to being surrounded by boundless natural beauty with relatively no distractions. Gray continued to hone her passion for art into her youth when she was offered a summer job to paint a mural under the mentorship of Ken Walters in 2004. This quickly sharpened Emily’s trajectory to pursue a career in the arts and by 2010 she graduated with a Bachelor of General Fine Arts from Emily Carr University where she focused on ceramic vertical gardens. Gray has been consistently painting murals since 2004 in Vancouver, Lower Mainland, Sunshine Coast and Hawaii. Community based art has been a recurring theme in Emily Gray’s murals because her mission is to empower people through the creative process. Emily Gray’s style is a mixture of vibrant illustrative realism, Inspired by the West Coast of British Columbia. Gray creates dynamic compositions that allow viewers to flow through the paintings and experience art on a larger scale. With the simple application of paint a space or building can be transformed to tell a story / evoke a feeling.

I’m currently working in the film industry as a scenic artist. Last painting season I completed murals for BC Children’s Hospital, Thunderbird Community Centre, Our Community Bikes (VMF), Key’s to the Streets, Lafarge, & Burnaby Community Arts.
